ACDS Teaching and Learning Leaders Conference – summary report

T&l3

The 2023 ACDS Teaching and Learning Leaders conference took place at Monash University on 20-21 June. More than 50 Associate Deans (Teaching and Learning) and other science education leaders from 23 universities met to discuss current topics in teaching and learning. The conference was opened with an inspiring address from Monash DVC Education, Professor Sharon Pickering on the importance of teaching and learning and the need for appropriate infrastructure to support best practice.

Under the theme “New challenges and old questions” the conference shared experiences and concerns about:

  • Assessment and academic integrity in the face of generative AI
  • Integrating Indigenous science and cultural competence into the curriculum
  • Leading for inclusion and diversity and fostering retention of under-represented groups
  • How the Australasian STEM Librarians Network can support teaching and learning
  • Student and staff experience and engagement post-COVID
  • An update and discussion on ACDS initiatives and projects

Participants discussed the main issues they are currently facing, which will lead to a report to Deans at the ACDS Annual General Meeting.

Thank you to all speakers and participants for the fantastic engagement and great ideas, both from presentations and discussions between sessions.
