WIL at Macquarie University

Improving work-integrated learning has been nominated as a key target for Australian university in the national WIL strategy published in 2015.  Macquarie University has created a whole-of-institution approach (PACE) to connecting curriculum with industry and community and has now published its experiences in the development of the program. The following abstract is provided by the publishers.

Learning Through Community Engagement, Vision and Practice in Higher Education, charts the development of a whole-institution approach to WIL at Macquarie University, highlighting the pivotal role that curriculum renewal can play in organisational transformation. Authored by those directly involved in the project, this book tells the story of the Professional and Community Engagement (PACE) initiative: its achievements, challenges, success factors and future directions. A series of dovetailing contributions by leading international scholars of university-community engagement set the PACE story in its global context.  This book contributes to a broader understanding of the practice and pedagogy of community engagement, and discusses the challenges and opportunities of implementing and sustaining change in the higher education sector.  The book was formally launched at the National Conference of the Australian Collaborative Education Network (ACEN), hosted at Macquarie University to coincide with the full implementation of the PACE program.
