The search has begun for Australia’s next constellation of Superstars of STEM. Could you be one of them? Or do you know someone you should encourage to apply?Created by Science & Technology Australia and funded by the Australian Government, this game-changing program advances gender equity in science, technology, engineering and maths. It creates high-profile diverse role models keen to step into the public spotlight as media stars.Open to women and non-binary people in STEM, the program smashes society’s gender assumptions about STEM careers by striving for more equitable gender representation of STEM experts in the media.Before this program, four in five STEM experts featured in the media were men. That figure is now two in three. Superstars of STEM works to build a critical mass of high-profile media role models to inspire our next generations into STEM. Since 2017, the program has trained 150 Superstars of STEM with the support of our amazing partners – the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Google Australia, GE Australia, the Department of Defence, the Australian Science Media Centre, STEM Matters and The Conversation.Our Superstars have acquired advanced communication skills and had exciting opportunities to use their skills in the media, on stage and speaking with Parliamentary and industry decision-makers.Science & Technology Australia has now launched its search to find Australia’s next 60 Superstars of STEM in 2023-24.
